Biography:
Ruben van Gogh is a performance poet, anthologist and host. He is a unique voice within Dutch poetry, combining clarity and wit with metaphysical aspirations and he almost casually succeeds in giving his poems a special linguistic touch. His poetry, described as stimulating, fascinating and funny, has taken him far beyond Dutch provincial stages.

Into the new life
In one explosion of words and conflagration
we disappeared; then all was still,
an unprecedented chill
hung over the abandoned location.
For a long while things remained just so.
The last prayer from the radio
-a sobbing diode,
tears on an electrode
was only heard by the weak of mind
and fairies gone astray, most of them blind
to our existence anyway.
Birds though would bring us their tale
of wondrous things they'd seen in flight
and as the weekdays passed from sight
warm summer breezes would prevail,
so that a jet-fighter pilot
at the end of the beginning
caught site of us. We stepped
hand in hand into the new life.
