Biography:
Antoine de Kom studied
medicine at the University of Utrecht before commencing a literary career in
1989.
Contrast, antithesis, paradox and the ambiguity of words feature in de
Kom's poetry and his themes revolve around the "tropics in a state of decline".
His publications include Tropen, Zebrahoeven and Chocolad trane.

did you come across escaped confessions
that morning when the bus kept you waiting
the elevator didn't work again
and the girl with big
questioning eyes came sitting next to you
on the bench, coughing.
we opened our pages once more
while people in growing panic
began to run past us in the street
faster and wilder and more and more?
is this the day that letters have been unloaded
this the hour of the glutton and the omnipresent gorging swarms
of syllables: we will live in the hurt world full of dangers
that only imagine themselves without healthy meaning.
here on the bench the books have been closed.
in their yellowed covers resting on our lap
we read about the silver mountain where words recently
learned how to read and have become very angry
and capable of anything.
